5 SIMPLE STEPS TO GET BACK IN TO A FITNESS ROUTINE

fitness

The hardest thing about getting in to a fitness routine is getting started. Once you get started you will find that you love the way it makes you feel both physically and mentally and all of a sudden it becomes part of your every day.

Here are 5 simple steps to get you in to a Fitness Routine:

  1. SET REALISTIC AND ACHIEVABLE GOALS:

If you don’t have a goal – you don’t have a reason so you can find that you loose motivation very quickly and that you easily find excuses to not exercise.

Set yourself a small weekly goal each Sunday – write it down, share it on Facebook or Instagram or tell family and friends so you feel more accountable.

Some simple goals include:

  • I will go for a walk 4 times this week

  • I will go to the gym 3 times this week

  • I will practice my push-ups everyday this week

  • I will be do X  amounts of squats each day this week

  • I will complete 3x workouts from @move.bybritt

  2. FIND A FRIEND/FAMILY MEMBER TO WORK OUT WITH

The best motivation is working out with some one else who is on the same mission as you! Call a girlfriend and plan to work out together – go for a walk with your prams, do a simple circuit in the park or if it’s possible go to the gym together. It’s the perfect way to catch up and keeps you motivated. Don’t forget to tell each other your goals so you can be accountable to each other.

  3. HIRE A PERSONAL TRANER AND GET A WORKOUT PROGRAM

I understand that it is not realistic for some people to be able to afford multiple PT sessions a week (if you can that’s great and PT is definitely one of the best ways to keep on track) but I do think it is vital to at least invest in seeing a Personal Trainer to get you started. You NEED a fitness program so that you have something to stick to when you go to the gym or when you do at home workouts. It is also worth every cent to ensure that you have your technique correct to prevent injuries. Contact the trainers in your gym or search for a mobile PT in your area (some even come to your house) and get them to write you a 6-8 week program that way you can make it more affordable by only seeing them once every couple of months but still get the results you’re after.

 4. FIND A TYPE OF EXERCISE YOU ENJOY

Have you heard the saying “do something you love and you will never work a day in your life”? Well the same goes for exercise , if you find something you love to do you won’t feel like it’s a chore or something that you dread instead you will look forward to it and soon you will become addicted!

Some people love to train alone doing weights in the gym, some love running, some love group training and others enjoy team sports. The most important thing with exercising is finding something you enjoy otherwise you just won’t do it and you will find every excuse under the sun to get out of it.

If you don’t know what you enjoy get out there and try a mix of everything. A good place to start is with group classes or boot-camps – most people find they enjoy working out with other people for the extra motivation and social aspect.

  5. START SMALL AND WORK YOUR WAY UP!

One of the most common mistakes I see people make when returning to or starting out on their fitness goals is that they go in too hard, too fast and expect too much too soon. If you go in and smash yourself straight up you are only going to end up sore, injured and unhappy. You will also be disappointed that you put in so much effort and haven’t seen the results you thought you would so quickly. If you haven’t exercised in the past or are just getting back in to it I would suggest starting slowly with walking then move in to a couple of gym sessions or a boot-camp and slowly work your way in to more exercise and higher intensity.

Be kind to yourself and remember the best results and the most sustainable results are ones that have been achieved over time.
